Biography
Nick fox was born in South Africa in 1972, moving to the UK in 1987. He studied at John Moores University, Liverpool (1992-95) and the Royal Academy Schools (1998-2001) and lectures at Newcastle University.
He is represented in several private collections and has been included in numerous exhibitions including London-Berlin, Fruehsorg Contemporary Drawing, Berllin (2012I, The International Print Biennial, Hatton Gallery, Newcastle (2011), 40 artists 80 Drawings, Burton Art Gallery and Museum (2011), Hand Joy’, Centre for Recent Drawing, London, (2010), The John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize 2010, Jerwood Contemporary Painters (2007), New British Painters (2007) curated by Flora Fairburn and Vanitas at Raid Projects, Los Angeles (2003).
Solo projects have included Unveiled at MOCA London, with Francis Picabia (2006), Phantasiebume, touring from the Centre for recent Drawing London (2009) to Vane Gallery, Newcastle (2010) and Ha Gamle Prestegard Norway (2011) and Nightsong, touring from Ha Gamle Prestegard Norway (2011)to Vane, Newcastle 2012/13 .
Fox has recently completed a residency at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland where has been developing the Longing Archive, a collection of unwanted love letters and stories of courtship exploring longing, loss and unrequited desire.
In 2010 Fox’s was a prizewinner of the John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize 2010 for his work Metatopia, now part of the Walker Permanent collection.
